DIRECTORCHAD W. BROOKS

         Chad W. Brooks is a native of Chilhowie, VA, where he attended Chilhowie High School, under the musical direction of Mr. Joseph P. Miller (deceased), and Mr. Glenn Weller.  He is a graduate of Radford University, Radford, VA, where he received a M.S. in Music Education, with additional graduate concentrations in Music Business and Wind Conducting, a B.S. in Music, and a B.M in K-12 General/Instrumental Music Education.  Prior to attending Radford University, Brooks attended Virginia Interment College, Bristol, VA, where he studied Music Education, Ballet, and Modern Dance.  Brooks’ primary instrument is percussion, with a minor in piano.

         Before assuming his current position with Wythe County Public Schools, Brooks served as Director of Bands for Metropolitan-Nashville Public Schools in Nashville, TN.  He was previously a graduate teaching assistant as well as Pep Band Director at Radford University, under the direction of renowned composer/conductor Mark D. Camphouse and music educators/clinicians Dr. R. Scott Cohen and Dr. Marilyn Meador.

         Brooks has performed for 26 years as a commercial musician, collegiate and symphony member, as well as a chamber percussionist and soloist.  He also enjoys motorcycling and attending Harley-Davidson events and bike shows.

         Brooks holds memberships in Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association, The Virginia Band & Orchestra Directors Association, Percussive Arts Society, Tennessee Band Masters Association, Ebenezer Lutheran Bell Choir, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

“THE PRIDE OF RURAL RETREAT” MARCHING INDIAN BAND UNDER MY DIRECTION, IS CHARACTERIZED BY MUSICALITY, DISCIPLINE, AND CAMARADERIE.  THE MUSICIANSHIP, ATTITUDE, AND TEAM EFFORTS FROM ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED CONTRIBUTE TO AN ORGANIZATION, WHICH CONTINUES TO ENHANCE MUSIC EDUCATION THROUGHOUT RURAL RETREAT MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL, THE WYTHE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM, AS WELL AS THE COMMUNITY OF RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA.

 

THE DEPARTMENT OF BANDS CONSISTS OF BOTH MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GRADES SIX THROUGH TWELVE, WITH ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AS JAZZ ENSEMBLE, LAB BAND, CONCERT BAND, WIND ENSEMBLE, PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE, COLOR GUARD, SUMMER CAMP, AND PRIVATE STUDY.  EACH STUDENT IS GIVEN THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE AND ENHANCE HIS OR HER OWN MUSICAL ENDEAVORS.

 

THE DEPARTMENT ALSO HOSTS A PARENT BOOSTER ORGANIZATION , THAT HAS HELPED TO RE-ESTABLISH A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PARENTS AND MUSICIANS TO INSURE HONEST VALUES AND THE CONTINUATION OF OUR BAND PROGRAM.  ALL PARENTS OF BAND STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO BE INVOLVED AND TO ATTEND MONTHLY MEETINGS AS WE CONTINUE IN UPHOLDING THE TRADITION AND PRIDE IN OUR SCHOOL.
